Bills of lading, 1767-1768.

The bills of lading record shipments sent from the furnace to Philadelphia by way of a landing on the Nanticoke River in nearby Worcester County, Md. Items shipped include pig iron, small and middle-sized stoves, chimney backs and sides, dog irons, andirons, cart boxes, sash weights, hand irons, pots and pans camp ovens and West India bars. Deer skins were included in one shipment.

Pine Grove Furnace was one of the earliest iron-making enterprises in Delaware. It was constructed on the site of present-day Concord in Broad Creek Hundred, Sussex County between 1765 and 1767 by Abraham Mitchel & Company.
